How compounding pharmacies are regulated

Compounding pharmacies prepare medications for individual patients. In the U.S., traditional compounding pharmacies, often called 503A pharmacies, compound based on individual prescriptions and are overseen mainly by state boards of pharmacy, following USP quality standards. Outsourcing facilities, called 503B facilities, register with the FDA and follow federal manufacturing standards. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved, so the pharmacy’s licensing, standards and your provider’s oversight matter. RxPepLab works only with licensed U.S. compounding pharmacies.
